Trip Leader
Description:
The Trip Leader (TL) position requires an energetic individual, preferably with experience working with people with disabilities. Experience with the implementation of experiential-based programs is a must, as are excellent organizational and trip leading skills. This position requires the ability to be a self-driver as well as a strong team player. The TL is responsible for leading and working directly with OE staff, volunteers, and participants on our Outdoor Adventure Programs. The TL will have joint responsibility for the trip’s administrative tasks, maintaining industry standard risk management practices, organizing and maintaining all OE gear and equipment, as well as for packing out and preparing for all OE programs. OE trips take place on weekends and weekdays and are 1 to 5 days in length, so the TL will have a flexible schedule to ensure coverage.
Responsibilities Include:
- Maintain program quality through effective Outdoor Adventure trip leadership for various programs throughout the year (i.e. snowshoeing, hiking, backpacking, kayaking, climbing and challenge course facilitation).
- Lead participants on 1-5 day Outdoor Adventure Programs ages 9-70
- Facilitate comfortable/ safe experience for participants
- Perform trip preparation and wrap up duties such as:
- Manage pre and post trip process
- Maintain OE gear and equipment
- Menu planning and pack out
- Gather outcome information from participants
Education/Training
- Experience working with youth and adults in an outdoor setting
- Some experience working with people with disabilities.
- Strong leadership, communication and facilitation skills and experience.
- 2+years leading kayaking, hiking, backpacking, snowshoeing, challenge course, climbing and/or related outdoor experience.
- The minimum age for all OE leaders is 21
- Current driver’s license and clean driving record
- Ability-willingness to drive 15 passenger van
- Current certifications in Wilderness First Aid and CPR (AHA or Red Cross)-REQUIRED
Availability:
Part-time seasonal position: Early June-October (exact dates to be arranged) with possibility for long term employment. |
