Scholarships
OE tries to keep programs affordable and to eliminate financial barriers that may get in the way of experiencing a program. For a scholarship application, please click here or call the OE office. Scholarships are awarded based on availability.

Program Participation Requirements
We want you to participate to the best of your ability. You will not be expected to participate in activities that you do not feel comfortable trying. All participants must be able to perform tasks of daily living and make their needs known throughout the program independently or with the assistance of a Personal Care Assistant. Your PCA may accompany you free of charge to provide support.

Participant Behavior Expectations
OE makes every attempt to accommodate each individual. However, OE volunteers and staff are not expected to deal with significant behavioral issues. Please contact the OE office regarding issues of concern so that we can work together to effect a positive, safe experience for all.

Program Details
You will receive detailed information about your program approximately two weeks prior to the trip date. OE provides snacks for all one-day programs and meals and snacks for multi-day programs. We provide or loan out all necessary gear and program-specific clothing at no cost.

Transportation
Transportation is usually available from OE’s office in Medford or from Davis Square MBTA station (on the Red Line). Transportation arrangements must be made at least two weeks in advance.

Accommodations
We have extensive experience working with people of all abilities and design each program to be inclusive. Our staff and volunteers provide accommodations including, but not limited to, information in alternate formats, sighted guides, ASL interpreters, and adapted equipment. If you need accommodations, please register for the program at least a month in advance.

Cancellations/Refunds
If you cancel more than seven days prior to your program, OE will provide a full refund minus a $10 administrative fee. No refunds are provided for cancellations less than seven days before the program date. If OE cancels a program, we will refund all fees paid for the program, including the deposit.

Breaking Down Barriers to Adventure
"The best part was seeing the clients with physical disabilities or fear of heights make the effort to climb the walls. People who never thought they could do this had the opportunity to be proud of themselves."
-Joe Breen, HICS recreation program coordinator (Climb and Dine 3.14.08)
