Outdoor Explorations is a 501(c)(3)
non-profit organization that makes the outdoors a welcoming place
to people with disabilities. Through our innovative, cooperative,
and fun approach, we break down the barriers that prevent people from
living life to the fullest. Our adventure programs, training, and
community service enable people of all abilities to discover and value
their own and others' unique strengths.
We offer outdoor adventure programs for individuals, groups, and corporate
clients and we run community service days and inclusivity training.
Working with committed volunteers, our participants discover the possibility
of the outdoors, achieve personal growth, and transform their lives.
Founder Carolyn Bess was convinced of the transformative power of
the outdoors after an amazing journey on the Appalachian Trail in
1991. She decided that such an experience was basic to the human spirit
and became determined to provide others with a similar opportunity.
Outdoor Explorations was born. Since Carolyn's vision became a reality,
OE has grown into a vibrant community of more than 2,000 participants
and 60 field volunteers.
